Abu Dhabi Judicial Department said yesterday that the court, which was trialled in April, is part of efforts to improve judicial services in the emirate. “The bus will serve as an official court and could be used for cases involving large groups of people living in one area, such as labour camps, or that involve people who find it difficult to attend court, such as those with special needs,” said Yasir Salem Al Mahri, from the communications department of Abu Dhabi Judicial Department. “The mobile court is part of the development of judicial and legal services through innovative ways that save the time and efforts of customers and on taking its services to all members of the public anytime, anywhere.”
Al Mahri said the courtroom on wheels will accommodate trials, along with the requisite judges, prosecutors, clerks and other parties on the lower floor. The bus also has an office on the upper floor that will provide administrative services, such as registering cases, taking fee payments and answering public inquiries. The bus also has a touch-screen computer that serves as an information portal. Before its official unveiling, the bus has been travelling across Abu Dhabi visiting schools, sporting occasions, universities and residential areas to help raise awareness of judicial procedures.
